Procedures done under general anaesthesia can
currently only be performed at the clinic in Košice
All
operations and painful procedures are usually performed under general
anaesthesia (so-called narcosis). Anaesthesia eliminates the
perception of pain, while controlling vital bodily functions,
especially the circulation and respiration. Anaesthesia is done by a
specialist doctor – an anaesthesiologist, who ensures your safety
while you are under anaesthesia and surgery.
General
anaesthesia
It
causes a state of unconsciousness and removes the perception of pain
from the whole organism. The sleep-like state lasts from the
beginning to the end of anaesthesia and surgery. Before initiating
anaesthesia, a period of preparation (so-called premedication) is
important, as it usually minimizes your natural fear with good
cooperation and is a prerequisite for good and safe anaesthesia.
Anaesthesia itself begins by introducing a dose of anaesthetic into
the bloodstream (usually into a vein in the upper limb) and is
supplemented by the administration of a gaseous mixture of
anaesthetics and oxygen through a face mask or so-called intubation
cannula. General anaesthesia can also be maintained by repeated or
continuous intravenous injection of anaesthetics.
