The autotransplantation of teeth is the transfer of your own teeth from one place to another. Your own teeth are in some cases a better alternative than various artificial implants.
There used to be only one way to replace a tooth, and that was to insert an implant. Autotransplantation is not yet a very common option. This is a unique method by which a tooth, usually an unnecessary wisdom tooth, is moved to the location of a missing tooth. A basic prerequisite for autotransplantation is having a healthy tooth that will be transplanted.
Course of the treatment
The procedure takes place under local anaesthesia and both steps are necessary, i.e. selection of a tooth and insertion of the tooth in a single visit. The extraction is first performed and then the tooth is inserted into the missing place, where it is fixed using special stitches. The transplanted tooth must heal, and after two weeks the sutures are removed and the tooth is considered functional.
