Professional dental hygiene is at present an important element in the comprehensive treatment of diseases of the periodontal tissue and is an inseparable part of treatment for all dental diseases. Oral hygiene is the professional cleaning of teeth through the removal of dental tartar, including tartar deposits above and below the gum line, and smoothing the surface of dental roots.
I. The process begins with the depositing of organic matter on the surface of the tooth, which forms a coating that bacteria and their products are attached to. The result is the formation of a solid base for tooth deposits.
II. The creation of a gingival covering creates the conditions for the formation of gingival deposits, which support inflammatory processes in the tissues surrounding the teeth.
III. This dental plaque is calcified over time and transformed into tartar. Tartar, in turn, serves as a “refuge” for bacteria; it protects them from mechanical and chemical influences, thus creating favourable conditions for their reproduction and growth.
These processes eventually lead to periodontitis, an inflammatory disease of the tooth’s fixation system. Periodontitis causes destructive changes in bone tissue and can lead to subsequent tooth loss. Many contemporary scientists have shown that the main cause of periodontitis is dental plaque, which contains a large number of microorganisms.
Professional oral hygiene should be done every 6 months. In the case of orthodontic treatment, implants, prostheses or periodontitis, dental hygiene once every 3 months is recommended.
Tartar is removed using ultrasonic instruments and specially adapted scalers. This process does not harm the tooth enamel and is pain-free. When ultrasonic cleaning and the removal of tartar under the gum line is necessary, DENTALCENTER may also use an operating microscope for better visualization and improved services.
The teeth are polished using special nozzles (brushes, rubber heads) and different polishing pastes, so that the surface of the tooth is smooth and no new deposits are formed on it for as long as possible. At the end of the procedure, we smear the teeth with fluoride to strengthen the enamel and reduce their sensitivity.
At DENTALCENTER, we devote special attention to teaching hygiene, where we select individual oral hygiene products to use at home and teach the proper teeth-cleaning technique.
